My name is Pedro Perez and I’m from Mexico. I came to the United States when I was only 16 years old, in search of medical treatment after being diagnosed with epilepsy. Thankfully, the treatments and medication received were successful and I’ve been able to carry on a normal life since. I chose to remain in the US to work and help my family back in Mexico. I come from a big family of limited means and my being here meant a lot to them. Being young and undocumented, it was hard to find and keep a job. However, I was determined to make the best out of the situation, earned my GED and found steady employment.
I met my wife, a US citizen, in 2006 and married in 2012; we now have 4 beautiful children. From the start, we tried to adjust my legal status in this country but were met with unscrupulous “immigration lawyers” who only saw me as an opportunity to make money. I was told I was eligible for legal status through my employer; I wasn’t. I was told I was eligible for political asylum; I wasn’t. I spent a lot of money and felt that I was sinking deeper and deeper into the shadows, worsening my goal of becoming a legal resident through my wife.
Then, I was referred to MRC by a social worker who took notice of my wife’s and my desperation to finally complete our legal process. When we met Frederik, we were taken aback by how honest and straight forward he was with our situation. He didn’t try to sell us a dream or a castle in the sky. He made sure we had a thorough understanding of my legal situation after having been deceived by previous lawyers. He explained the different outcomes based on the different legal paths we had available. Mr. Frederik and his entire team were that breath of fresh air we were hoping for; a reset button. The entire process felt personal. He didn’t see us just as clients but more like a family in desperate need of help, and we appreciate him for that.
It took only a few months before I was on my way to Ciudad Juarez for my interview. I felt nervous but also at ease because even though we were not guaranteed a Visa, we were prepared for any outcome, thanks to Frederik’s honesty and professional advice which went beyond just a Green Card.
I finally received my Green Card last month! MRC was a true blessing for my family, for my kids who no longer worry about daddy not returning home. I thank God every single day for Frederik and his entire team. Thanks to them, I was able to hug and kiss my parents after 21 years. That, to me, is priceless!
